SUPER- PAINTER IN ACTION

Lewis Lamb on the healthy eating menu [Aug 03]
Cookery show presenter and top chef, Wendy Barrie made a bee line for Charles Macleod when shopping for the launch of Food and Health,a new healthy eating policy document in Stornoway.

Wendy chose Lewis Lamb as one of the dishes for the launch's live cookery demonstration.

A guide on implementing and following a healthy eating diet, Food and Health, is a joint initiative of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and the Western Isles Health Board. It was endorsed by the Food Standards Agency and world-leading microbiologist, Prof. T. Hugh Pennington.

Wendy is also a director of www.scottishfoodguide.com

Why not try some of our tasty Lewis Lamb? Order here and then get a recipe.

From the archives [Aug 03]
Searching recently through a desk drawer in the back office uncovered a couple of long forgotten snaps. How we cringed! Take a look.

From the land of Down Under
[July 03]
My fiancee and myself arrived in London in February of this year hoping to do some serious travelling of Scotland, Ireland and Europe. Our first place of employement was in Inverary near Glasgow, for three months, working in the George Hotel. The thing we noticed most of all was how friendly everyone was and how they tried to make you feel welcome straight away. After a brief time in Ireland my fiancee received a job offer at the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway. As of yet we haven’t travelled very much of the islands but are very keen to do so in the coming couple of months.

I gained employement at Charles Macleod's butchery when I came in off the street to buy a leg of lamb. Through just a simple conversation it came up that I was looking for employement in the area for a short period of time and the next thing I know I was working here. It comes back to the fact of just how friendly the people are in Scotland.

In the future I hope to return home and purchase a hotel of my own. Where we settle down to do so, has not been decided as of yet. It seems we are having too much fun overseas to worry about that just now.

Nice one! [March 03]
Congrats to Iain Macleod for topping the poll in the local Stornoway Trust elections. Iain, who has served for the last 20 years on the elected board of the community owned estate, polled 1,325 votes. He's also had a ten year long stint as chairman from November 1989 till December 31, 1999.
Well done, our civic-minded boss! He’s obviously a popular guy on both sides of the counter. :)

All the gen [Feb 03]
All quiet on the news front. The latest news is there’s no news to report. Meanwhile, it’s business as usual at Ropework Park.

New recruits [Dec 02]
Ria Macleod and Douglas Inglis have both returned from their arduous university studies and have come straight to work at Charley Barley's. Is it dedication to the cause or are they both hard up?

Hello, Goodbye [Dec 02]
Coastguard Tug, Anglian Monarch has replaced Anglian Prince on duty in the Minch and surrounding area.
Aged two years, she is the second newest vessel in the Klyne Tugs fleet and the first of Klyne's vessels to sport the Coastguard's striking livery.
All at Charles Macleod's welcome Captain Richard Kendall and his crew to Stornoway.

Back in Stornoway [Oct 02]
Making a welcome return to the port of Stornoway is the Marine Coastguard Agency's tug, Anglian Prince. The vessel is on stand-by in the Minch over the winter and has patrolled the waters around the Western Isles each year since 1998. As usual, the crew were keen to be reunited with their favourite local produce!

New members of staff [Sept 02]
There's a couple of new faces at Charles Macleod's with two members of staff joining us recently.

David McShannon is a butcher with 12 years experience and adds further strength to our team here at Ropework Park.
