Presently:
on a two year working holiday visa to the UK
My
fiancee and myself arrived in London in February of
this year hoping to do some serious travelling of Scotland,
Ireland and Europe. Our first place of employement was
in Inverary near Glasgow, for three months, working
in the George Hotel. The thing we noticed most of all
was how friendly everyone was and how they tried to
make you feel welcome straight away. After a brief time
in Ireland my fiancee received a job offer at the Western
Isles Hospital in Stornoway. As of yet we havent
travelled very much of the islands but are very keen
to do so in the coming couple of months.
I
gained employement at Charles Macleod's butchery when
I came in off the street to buy a leg of lamb. Through
just a simple conversation it came up that I was looking
for employement in the area for a short period of time
and the next thing I know I was working here. It comes
back to the fact of just how friendly the people are
in Scotland.
In
the future I hope to return home and purchase a hotel
of my own. Where we settle down to do so, has not been
decided as of yet. It seems we are having too much fun
overseas to worry about that just now.

Nice
one! [March 03]
Congrats to Iain Macleod for topping the poll in the local
Stornoway Trust elections. Iain, who has served for the last
20 years on the elected board of the community owned estate,
polled 1,325 votes. He's also had a ten year long stint as
chairman from November 1989 till December 31, 1999.
Well
done, our civic-minded boss! Hes obviously a popular
guy on both sides of the counter. :)
